Tips for using this result
- Buying right after the closing date usually gives you the most days to pay.
- Buying on the closing day or just before gives you the fewest days.
- This only avoids interest if you pay the full statement balance.
- Set reminders with the payment calendar.
What is the statement closing date?
It is the day the institution closes your card’s billing period and adds up all purchases, payments and interest to issue the statement. The payment due date comes days later: it is the last day to pay without a late fee. The days between the purchase and the due date are the days you have to pay.
Why does the date you buy matter?
If you buy right after the closing date, that purchase goes on the next statement and you get almost a full cycle plus the payment period. If you buy right before the closing date, it goes on immediately and you only get the days until the due date. With several cards with different closing dates, you can choose which one to use depending on the day.
How this organizer works
- For each card, enter the closing day and the days between closing and the payment due date (they appear on your statement).
- Choose the purchase date (today by default).
- The tool calculates which statement the purchase falls in, when you have to pay and how many days you get with each card, and highlights the best one.
Important warnings
- You only avoid interest if you pay the full balance of the statement before the due date.
- Cash advances and some deferred installments accrue interest from the start.
- If the due date falls on a holiday or weekend, the rule depends on each institution.
- Having more days to pay is not a reason to buy more.

Usually the day after the statement closing date, because the purchase goes on the next statement and you get more days to pay.

It depends on the institution and the time it is processed. For planning, this tool assumes the purchase falls in that same statement.
Do more days to pay mean I don’t pay interest?

On your statement or in your financial institution’s app.
